MYTHS AND MARTYRS TOUR:
Stories from a Christian Journalist in the Middle East
Topic: Resolution 2334, NZ’s role and likely impact on Jew and Arab
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Johannes Gerloff is a professional journalist, a studied theologian and he is German. With all that carries with it in relation to that nation’s past treatment of the Jewish people – culminating in the Holocaust during the NAZI regime in WWII – it is that much more significant that Johannes and his wife and children have lived in Israel for the past 22 years. Not out of feelings of guilt for the past, but because of a Godly calling, he has dedicated his journalistic skills to providing balanced reporting on issues and events in Israel and the Middle East. He has covered a multitude of significant events in times of relative peace, but he has also put his life at risk reporting in times of conflict and even outright war.
His many and varied contacts among Israelis, Arabs and Palestinians at all levels of society – from shepherds to saints, from common laborers to high level government officials – have given him unique access to the hearts and minds of the people as well as deep insight into the issues they are dealing with.
Besides excellent historical background and insight into the political developments in the Middle East according to International law established between the World Wars and afterward, you will hear real testimony from people on both sides of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and amazing stories of things that Johannes has experienced himself during his time in the region.
Your opinion and what you do with it is important! This talk and his book will help that opinion to be one that is well informed.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
KEN HEPWORTH is a man with a heart for God’s people and a desire to see the Church, both locally and globally become all it is destined to be in Christ.
Through the Bible Ken has come to a deep understanding of God’s love of, and faithfulness to the Jewish people. He is passionate about sharing God’s plan for His people and His land Israel. Ken is also fervent about exposing increasing anti-Semitism in the world and challenging Replacement Theology. Come along and find out more about what the Bible reveals of God’s plan for Israel, as well as how we as the Church are called to be part of that plan.
This passion has placed him at the cutting edge of healing and deliverance issues in his calling and commitment to fully proclaim the Kingdom of God. He has served the local church for over thirty years as Evangelist, Pastor and latterly as a Bible Teacher with an International Discipleship and Healing Ministry. He served as UK Chairman of Ebenezer Operation Exodus, an organisation dedicated to the return of the Jewish people to Israel, for five years.
You are invited to a
Special Evening

- It is not a political statement that we agree with every decision that the Israeli or NZ Governments have made or will make.
- To recognise the special covenant God made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- To stand with the people and land of Israel, seeking that they be blessed.
- To respond to God’s call to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

(Meet from 5.45pm for drinks first if you can)
Come along and see the movie “Denial” with other NZFOI folk. Tickets only $10.
Did you know that the Simon Weisenthal Centre’s work now is primarily geared to countering holocaust denial and pursuing holocaust deniers like David Irving. Consider what does it take legally to do this? What is the holocaust evidence?
Movie Synopsis:
A Jewish university professor in Jewish studies at an American university named Deborah E. Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz) cites historian David Irving in a book about Holocaust deniers. Pretty straight forward you would think. An open and shut case over the death of 6 million Jews. Think Yad Vashem, Auschwitz… Irving then accuses her of libel and brings an action against her. Now the tables are turned and she is the one being accused. The key issue becomes a legal battle for historical truth. As the burden of proof is placed on the accused, Lipstadt and her legal team must fight to prove the truth of the holocaust. How would you answer this question????
RSVP Joanna Moss at joannamoss@nzfoi.org or phone (04) 802 5956 or (022) 154 7865
You’re invited to a free screening of the movie “Woman in Gold.”
It is the story of Maria Altmann, an elderly Jewish refugee living in Cheviot Hills, Los Angeles, who, together with her young lawyer, Randy Schoenberg, fought the government of Austria for almost a decade to reclaim Gustav Klimt’s iconic painting of her aunt, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which was stolen from her relatives by the Nazis in Vienna just prior to World War II. Altmann took her legal battle all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States, which ruled on the case Republic of Austria v. Altmann (2004).
It stars Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Brühl, Katie Holmes, Tatiana Maslany, Max Irons, Charles Dance, Elizabeth McGovern, and Jonathan Pryce.
A strong cast, an absorbing story.
The film scores 4.7 out of five on Amazon reviews.
Please bring a plate of finger food. The library will be open so be sure to bring your returns.
Sunday, 2pm, May 14.
Northwood Villa Clubrooms, Northwood Villas Crescent, Christchurch, 8051.
