Operation Protective EdgeThe Gaza War of 2014 (otherwise known as Operation Protective Edge) was a devastating conflict between Israel and the terrorist group administrating the Gaza Strip, Hamas. The conflict resulted in a tragic number of casualties.

With both sides being accused of war crimes during that time period, AUJS hosts two Israeli soldiers sharing their own experience of the conflict.

The function will culminate in a talk for 40 minutes followed by 20 minutes of Q & A.

Whilst we understand the passion of groups advocating in various capacities pertaining to this conflict – we ask that attendees show respect due the speakers and other attendees and try to contribute to what should be a productive and learning environment.

When are two Gazans going to be invited to share THEIR experiences of The Israeli War on Gaza Otherwise known as Operation Vengeful Devastation?

    • Anyone can do what we did; you can invite some Gazans too; but don’t worry there are speaking tours all the time with people lobbying to gather support for the Arabs. When did you last invite a Jew to speak on behalf of Israel? We had a German come and discuss their views on why Germany participated in the Holocaust and its continuing impact on German society. NZFOI wants to promote discussion and debate; we will never call for someone’s voice to be silenced. The Jewish people know from bitter experience that silence only leads to the ovens.

  2. These people should be on trial not speaking tours.

    • @Mick: Oh, but they are: in the court of public opinion.

Are you aware that: During the operation, New Zealand television audiences were nightly subjected to disturbing images and video footage from Gaza of wounded children, dead children, and grieving parents. There was comparatively little mention of the trauma and destruction the multitude of rocket attacks had had on Israel, which precipitated the war.

“It wasn’t until the operation was well over that returning journalists from the combat zone could report that much of the footage that they had taken was heavily censored, often situations were staged and that they had commonly witnessed Palestinian combatants using buildings such as hospitals and schools for military purposes, and civilians as human shields.”

Western journalists were prevented from reporting that civilians in Gaza were forbidden to evacuate their homes and other buildings by Hamas despite multiple advance warnings from Israel that they intended taking action against military activity observably operating from those buildings.

Captured documents show that Hamas’ doctrine encouraged civilian casualties because they served to harden world opinion against Israel. Hamas was in turn absolved from any guilt since in their eyes, such deaths, incurred in the name of Jihad, guaranteed these Muslim believers entry into paradise.

      • zionism is nothing but Stalin’s mafia! Damm Murders! They’ve stolen over 700 children this year alone! Shooting pregnant women. Oh just give up!.
You need a place to call home?
        You can have Mississippi!
        You’ll fit right in!
We’ll even build Walls around you!

        • Mississippi is that some sort of veiled link to the KKK ??……they’re antisemitic too (and full of hate) just like you

  3. These scum should not even be allow in New Zealand let alone give their racist opinions on the occupation of Palestine. Poor form Victoria University.

  4. Heather Krampe

Blaming Hamas for firing Rockets into shitzreal is like Blaming a Woman for Punching Her Rapist!
    Tic-Tok-Tic-Tok-Tic-Tok

    • @Heather: Hamas is pressing ahead with an all or nothing “fight to the death” war with Israel. Ideas of mutual recognition, live and let live are far from their minds. For them the Middle Eastern conflict is a religious one and therefore it is difficult for us in the predominantly secular West to comprehend. This is clear from its charter and its practices. Thus ordering of civilians not to evacuate their homes even though they are operating military bases from within these buildings is justifiable, since, in the context of Jihad, as Muslims they will see paradise anyway when they die. For them, their jihad includes the complete destruction of Israel.

      • It doesn’t work anymore. shitzrae is and will always be the Terrorist! zionism is dying. They are all that is left of Stalin’s mafia zionist. Haha. Irony is”The Russians are coming!”.. The last of zion will perish nawing on the bones of those who went before them. Such Evil consumes there own. .

        • Blaming Hamas for firing rockets into Israel is like blaming the Nazis for the Holocaust…… Hang on, where does Krampe come from?, maybe anti antisemitism runs in the blood

  5. How many people are aware that New Zealand contributed to this problem during the first world war. NZ mounted rifles outed the Ottomans, in fact kiwis are buried in Be’er Sheva commonwealth war cemetery. Israel then became the British mandate until after the second world war, (while Europe had been killing Jews), The Major powers in Europe after the second world war didn’t know what to do with the Holocaust survivors, there was tremendous pity by many nations that the Jews had been allowed to be slaughtered. Jews were allowed to settle in Palestine, and were given a mandate in 1948 by the united Nations to become a state for all Jews,m a place to be free form hatred and genocide. Jews vowed then to never be defenseless again. Israelis have they right to defend themselves like any other nation, some would argue that they have more right than any other state to defend themselves because of the amount of Jews that have been killed in Pogroms and genocide. New Zealanders shouldn’t be so naive and anti Semitic.

  6. MODERATOR COMMENT

    Hi Folks

We like to promote constructive discussion so suggest that we keep to the highest levels of netiquette.

    Furthermore, there is a saying in sport: “Play the ball not the man”;

In this context, it means address the issues raised in a comment not the person making them.

Name calling, or casting dispersions on the comment writer (like “how stupid can you get?” or “that was a silly comment” doesn’t progress the debate very far.

Better to come up with facts that support your point is so much better and helps people become more informed on both sides of the issue.

  7. Play the ball, not the man? The problem *is* the men. I will never forget the day Israel targeted a hospital, a known safe area, killing a whole swag of women and children. A designated safe area harbouring *no* weapons or fighters, independently verified. And hit from a range which absolutely precluded error. A deliberate act of terror of the worst sort. The smooth and outrageous lies flowing from the mouth of the Israeli spokesman made me feel ill. He was a Colonel.
I can promise you the two ‘ordinary soldiers’ you bring over will be highly trained propagandists. By doing this you stain your hands with the blood of the women and children killed that day. Shame on you.

  8. Hi Admin – such a shame to have missed this event as i am away. I hope that there will be another one! I feel very strongly about the rigt for Israel to defend herself & for Israelis to be able to speak out & defend their country against the lies & propaganda & speak the truth. The ignorance of these people astounds me, who are they to wrongfully accuse Israel of war crimes and occupation of so-called ‘palestine’ which doesn’t exist. They need to do some homework that’s for sure.

    • @Jojo: Unfortunately the current media treatment of the Middle East conflict is quite one-sided. The rocket attacks over the last few weeks have hardly had a mention in New Zealand. But whenever Israel retaliates an article is often but not in every case generated. For the skim reader, it gives the perverse impression that Israel is the protagonist.
