Irish fiction writer John Boyne is the author of seven novels for adults, revolving around figures as disparate as Buffalo Bill and Harvey Crippen, and three for younger readers. The first of these, ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, published in 2006, was embraced by all ages. It was shortlisted for or won a host of international awards, topped the New York Times Bestseller List, has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide and has been made into an award-winning film.
His eighth novel, Noah Barleywater Runs Away, a book for younger readers, was published in October 2010 and was shortlisted for the2011 Irish Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year. His most recent adult novel, The Absolutist, was published in 2011.
His new children’s book, The Terrible Thing That Happened To Barnaby Brocket, will be released in August 2012. It is a fantasy about a baby who is born to fly. He lives in Dublin.
This is a very rare opportunity to see John Boyne over on this side of the world. Boyne will be in conversation with Book Council Director Noel Murphy, who he has known since they worked together in a bookstore in Dublin in 1997. Murphy has a very thorough knowledge of Boyne’s work, and their friendship will make the conversation lively and engaging.
